Dave Armstrong has worked as a writer, consultant, concept developer, creative director, interpreter and writer for a number of museums in Aotearoa and overseas.
Dave was the creative director for Slice of Heaven – Te Papa’s major exhibition about twentieth century history. Dave was also an interpreter and writer for Te Papa and Wētā Workshop’s Gallipoli: The Scale of Our War . He also worked as a concept developer Te Papa’s Te Taiao - Nature exhibition. Dave has also worked as a writer on many other Te Papa exhibitions including Body Odyssey, Quake Braker, Poisoners, Ocean Planet and Voyagers.
In 2017 Dave was employed by Pukeko Productions to travel to Zhuhai in China, where he worked on the Traditional Chinese Medicine Technology and Creativity Museum, designed by Sir Richard Taylor.
In 2015, Dave was selected to be part of a New Zealand delegation selected by the French Ministry of Defence that travelled to Paris and visited various sites on the Western Front. It then produced the creative brief for the French memorial at Pukeahu National War Memorial Park in Wellington.
Dave has also worked for Auckland Museum on a variety of exhibitions, most recently its World War One centenary exhibition and Learning Base.
Dave recently co-wrote Ngā Tohunga Whakatere The Navigators, a planetarium show at Wellington’s Space Place. This ground-breaking show tells a story about both Polynesian and Western navigation.
Dave wrote the signage for the new New Zealand Māori and Arts Centre building at Te Puia, Rotorua, and was also writer for Puke Ariki’s exhibition about Mount Taranaki.
Dave has also worked as concept developer and/or writer for Puke Ariki (New Plymouth), Waikato Museum, Wigram Air Force Museum and Waihi Discovery Centre.
