Dave has written for school science publications, science and navigation exhibitions, and has won the Royal Society of New Zealand Manhire Prize for Creative Science Writing.

Dave has worked as a writer, creative director, concept developer and intepreter at museums in Aotearoa and overseas. These include Te Papa, Auckland Museum, Puke Ariiki and Waikato Museum in New Zealand, and the Traditional Chinese Medicine Technology and Creativity Museum in Zhuhai and the Hefei Science Museum, China.
